Sandy Plains Baptist Church has enjoyed a rich history of ministry and influence in the East Cobb community where it is located. The church was founded in 1846, as the result of the vision and commitment of four men, who saw the need for a church to minister to the rural farm community around them. Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, as it was initially named was born. Declaring their faith in God and thier willingness to be used by Him, the church started with twenty charter members.
In 1850, Gus Mayes donated some land to the church. Through the vision of its members over the years and being lead by God's Spirit, more land has been acquired making the present ministry of Sandy Plains Church possible.
Through the years, church staff members have served various lengths of time with a variety of effectiveness. But, in their own way, each has contributed to making Sandy Plains Baptist what it is today. From the early beginnings as a small, rural, part-time church, it has grown to be an urban/suburban church with a variety of programs and ministries seeking to reach the community around us.
The world, the community, and the church have changed radically since 1846, but the covenant of those original four men, twenty charter members and those who have followed them as church staff members and church members at Sandy Plains Baptist Church has continued. We may change, but God is the same God into all eternity.
